Valenti Foundation fuels learning at revamped centres

Molepa Crèche in Diepsloot, Johannesburg is the latest child care centre to receive a Valenti Library of educational posters and books from the Valenti Foundation in the US.

Every centre that undergoes a JAM SA Makeover receives a pack of educational materials donated by the Valenti Foundation. These posters and books not only brighten the environment further but also equip the teachers with the tools they need to make sure the children are fully prepared when they leave the centre to begin Grade R.

The Interact Club from St Stithians College in Johannesburg dedicated their hands and time to the makeover of Molepa Crèche. They gave up four days of their April holiday to paint the three brick classrooms and jungle gym and repair the windows, cupboards and toilet at the centre. Grass was laid outside and soft coloured tiles were set out in the classrooms – giving the children a comfortable floor to sit on when they’re not using their brand new plastic tables and chairs.

All of these improvements will make a huge difference to the 38 children who attend Molepa Crèche.

“It was great. I loved it. I woke up each day looking forward to it. I’m actually sad it’s over. People had fun, we built relationships but most importantly, we made a difference – that’s what we came here to do. We did small things but we did them well. I’m really happy for the kids!” comments Tafadzwa Ndlovu, head of the Interact Club at St Stithians.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you everyone. Thank you to the boys from St Stithians School, thank you to JAM, the community, crèches forum, thank you very much…I can cry really!” says Mama Rosina, owner of the now bright and beautiful Molepa Crèche.
