CRC Kimberley and JAM Turn Lives Around
Written By: Sarah Sebetola
The Christian Revival Church (CRC) Kimberley and JAM SA formed a partnership in January 2016, after the church showed an interest in supporting nutritional feeding programmes at JAM Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centres.
After CRC had identified seven ECD centres, they invited JAM to conduct nutritional assessments and to train the staff on how to store and prepare the porridge. CRC covers the cost of the highly nutritious JAM meals served at the crèches, and also donates items such as clothes, blankets and other items when they become available. Through the JAM SA and CRC partnership, 200 children are fed every school day.
After just eight months of feeding at the seven centres, child stunting decreased by 22%. CRC head pastor Brian Coetzee decided that the positive effect of the partnership involvement should be communicated and the project was launched on 15 November at Protea Hotel Kimberley. Government officials, representatives from the Department of Social Development and business owners from various sectors were among those who attended. ECD centre owners were awarded certificates ranging from Best ECD Centre of the Year to Hard Worker of the year. JAM SA was awarded a Certificate for Outstanding Contribution to the Community of Kimberley.
Fences were also mended as two chiefs from the Platfontein Community put their differences aside after CRC intervened. JAM SA salutes CRC Kimberley for taking the initiative to make a difference in its community to give children a future they deserve.
