Team Red Bowl South Africa hosted a very successful Bowling for Bowls event in Johannesburg in May, with over 100 people having a ball as they bowled for Red Bowls!
122 bowlers took to Let’s Go Bowling at Northcliff Corner Shopping Centre in Johannesburg to raise money for JAM South Africa’s nutritional feeding programme. As a result of the evening, Team Sibambene raised nearly R9 000 in one evening – that’s 25 Red Bowls filled for an entire year! That’s 25 South African children with a guaranteed meal of JAM SA’s highly nutritious CSS+ porridge every school day for the next year.
Team Red Bowl South Africa coordinator, Sylvanna Cheketri brought together a number of corporate teams, family groups and even some representatives from JAM SA, JAM Water and Jesus Alive Gospel Outreach for an evening of footloose antics at the alley! Armed with a pair of brightly coloured socks and the coloured ball of their choice, each bowler had two games in which to perfect – or try and improve – their score! Of course, some bowlers just never seemed to get off the ground!
Mike from Investment Coins won the lucky draw on the night. “A big thank you to Emperors Palace for donating the prize of a two-night stay at the Mondeor Hotel,” says Cheketri.
The ‘Have a Heart’ campaign was also well supported, with a number of bowlers purchasing the brightly coloured bracelets made by Marilyn Georgiou, a member of Team Sibambene. All proceeds of the bracelet sale also went to filling Red Bowls.
Fueled by the snack platters provided and a sense of friendly competition amongst the teams, the night finally came to an end with a prize giving: Best male – Corné Engelbrecht and Clayton Risk; Best female – Jolene Engelbrecht; and best team – JAM Water!
Cheketri also offered special thanks to Lynn and Costa at Let’s Go Bowling for all their help and giving Team Red Bowl the best deal possible. “Thanks again to everyone…we’ll be doing it again soon!”
Stay tuned for the next Bowling for Bowls event!
