JAM SA welcomed Craig Wittstock and Derek Schulze to the Red Riders in April… And, only a few months later, the duo has raised R52 500 for JAM South Africa.
Craig and Derek took part in the Sani2C cycle race which takes riders from mountainous Underberg to coastal Scottburgh (263km) over three days.
While they didn’t quite shave off any time from their previous race, they did raise a record amount and the money will be going to one of our projects.
In the meantime, he and Derek are in training for the Trans Baviaans, which has been described as the “toughest single stage race in the world”.
Tomorrow they will once again don their JAM Red Rider jerseys. In appreciation of their spectacular efforts Maxxis Tyres, a long-time supporter of JAM SA, has given them each a pair of special tyres for the event.
“With only a day to go before the big 230km haul from Willowmore to Jeffrey’s Bay, the excitement (and nerves and trepidation) is beginning to set in. It’s time to ensure the bikes and equipment are 100% good to go and steel the nerves! The Maxxis Ikons are set for what they’re intended…some of the best endurance mountain biking on the planet! I am sure no one in the team can wait to get their tyres in the dirt!” says Derek.
“I am super pleased with the result of our fundraising efforts and I am looking forward to the Trans Baviaans… and the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge,” says Craig who has gone yet another step further and encouraged his colleagues to join him for that race in November.
JAM SA is most grateful for the efforts of our riders and a big thank you to Maxxis for keeping them on (and off) the road!
