In celebration of the Thai New Year, Simply Asia held a Songkran campaign where meals were sold with a portion of sales donated to JAM South Africa. The campaign raised enough money to provide 44 114 meals to feed children in JAM supported early childhood development centres in South Africa.
When asked why Simply Asia chose to support JAM South Africa , National Marketing Manager Lauren Kruger said, “JAM’s vision of feeding children in their development stages of life to be able to learn at school is the starting point of transformation. Education is the key to the success of our country and if children don’t receive the right nutrition during their development stages they won’t be able to achieve the results required to grow their education”.
The campaign ran in restaurants in Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal, Western Cape and Port Elizabeth where for every Songkran special meal that was bought, Simply Asia donated R3,25 to JAM South Africa.
Giving back to the community is entrenched in the Thai Culture, that is why Simply Asia has an annual campaign for giving back to communities. The word “Songkran” comes from the Sanskrit word saṃkrānti, meaning transformation or change. “Change only happens when we all participate in uplifting our communities and this can’t be achieved by one company or person” said Lauren.
